Yifei has started a new collaboration with Haotian Li, a postgraduate supervised by Dr Fu Zhang from the Mechatronics and Robotic Systems (MaRS) Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering HKU. Together they have been testing LiDAR-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms for accurate 3D mapping of the marine reserve in Cape d’Aguilar. The plan is that they can apply such advanced technology on UAVs for large-scale habitat mapping and to facilitate marine education and conservation.
